In recent days, Dana Lanjabadi, a Kurdish activist, has received 50 lashes in the city of Marivan.

A credible source in Marivan informed the Kurdistan Human Right Network that the verdict against Dana Lanjabadi, who has been held in Marivan prison for disturbing public order charge since last year, is carried out in Marivan in the past few days.

Dana, a Kurdish activist and former BA student at the Payamnoor University, Marivan branch in Agricultural Economics was arrested on 25 January 2014 at his workplace by the Iranian security forces and transferred to the city’s security detention center. Then, on 26 May 2014 he was sentenced to one-year discretionary imprisonment for propaganda against the regime and 50 lashes for disturbing public order by Judge Lotfi at Marivan revolutionary court. His detention occurred after he had participated in a protest which had been held by the people of Marivan against the execution of three Kurdish political prisoners.

The Kurdish activist had been arrested once more in 2011 for participating in the student strike at his university and sentenced to a one-year suspended sentence.
