The imprisonment sentence of a member of the Mothers of Peace Group, Zeinab Ismaili, was reduced to one year in prison after making an appeal to Branch 1 of the Sanandaj Revolutionary Court. She had been sentenced to six years in prison recently in absentia by the Sanandaj Revolutionary Court on charges of “membership in dissident groups” and “propaganda against the state”.
She has been detained in Dehgolan since February 27 and transferred to the ministry of Intelligence Detention centre in Sanandaj. She has not been allowed to call or visit her family in addition to being deprived of her medications.
This member of the Mothers of Peace Group, who was unable to appear in court due to lack of information about the date of the trial, was sentenced in absentia to five years in prison in late November on charges of “membership in dissident groups” and one year in prison for “propaganda against the state. Following the appeal made by her lawyer, a re-trial was held on Nov 21, 2020, at the Branch 1 of the Revolutionary Court of Sanandaj, presided over by Judge Saeedi. The court acquitted her of the charge of “membership in dissident groups” and she was sentenced to 1 year of suspended imprisonment. This sentence has been officially served on her lawyer in recent days.
Zainab Ismaili, the mother of Mohammed Amiri, is a member of the People’s Protection Units under the umbrella organization of “Hawri Lilakh”. Mohammed Amiri was killed in 2014 while defending the People’s Protection Units from the city of Kobani against ISIL attack.
The Kurdish Group of “Mothers of Peace” was founded by a number of mothers of Kurdish political prisoners and Kurdish executed citizens. These mothers have declared their goal to help bring about peace and justice in Kurdistan.
In recent years, the security agencies are putting increasing pressures on the Kurdistan citizens by repeatedly summoning members of Kurdish Peace Mothers, especially in the cities of Sanandaj, Marivan and Dehgolan.
