On Monday, Aug 10, 2020, a Kurdish civil rights activist ‘Zahra Jamali’ was sent to Dieselabad Prison in Kermanshah to serve her nine-month sentence, a reliable source told the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN).
The activist was summoned and interrogated by Kangavar Intelligence Office in March 2017 following the release of a video in opposition to the compulsory hijab. The next day, after being summoned to the city court, a case was filed against her and she was released on a 25 million Tomans bail.
She was later sentenced by the Kangavar Islamic Revolutionary Court to one year in prison on charges of “propaganda against the state,” which was commuted to six months on appeal.Moreover, under the pressure of Friday Prayer’s Imam of Kangavar and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), another case was filed against Zahra Jamali at the criminal court on charges of “removing the hijab in public and promoting prostitution & corruption” for which she was sentenced to an additional 91 days in prison, a fine of two million Tomans and 548 hours of attending chastity and hijab classes.
