Two weeks after the transfer of the Kurdish political prisoner Mohyeddin Ebrahimi from Orumiyeh prison to an undisclosed location, no information is available about his situation.
His family is concerned about his situation as his death sentence has been finalised.
In an interview with the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN), a relative of the political prisoner said: “On 26 November, Mohyeddin Ebrahimi and six other political-ideological and non-political prisoners were transferred from Orumiyeh prison to an undisclosed location. During this period, the other prisoners managed to make short phone calls to their families several times and said they were being held in the detention centre of the Intelligence Organisation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) at Al-Mahdi base [in Orumiyeh, West Azerbaijan province].”
The source added: “Mohyeddin Ebrahimi has so far been denied the right to contact and visits by his family. His family’s efforts to find out about his situation have been fruitless. Lack of information on the situation of the political prisoner sentenced to death has raised the family’s concerns about the risk of his execution.”
Reportedly, after about ten years, the Intelligence Organisation of the IRGC has taken over the special office that was previously under the control of the Ministry of Intelligence.
As part of the new policies of this military-security institution, on 26 October, the political and non-political prisoners were simultaneously transferred to the detention centre of the Intelligence Organisation of the IRGC.
On 26 October, security forces transferred five prisoners of conscience, Mohyeddin Ebrahimi, Mohyeddin Tazehvared, Davoud Jabbari, Ebrahim Khalil Sedigh Hamedani, Salar Khalil Sedigh Hamedani, and three non-political prisoners named Farzin Ghaderi, Amir Mohammadi, and Kamal Khakzad, to a security detention centre in Orumiyeh.
Background
Forces of the Intelligence Organisation of the IRGC wounded Ebrahimi in a village of Oshnavieh, West Azerbaijan province, on 3 November 2017, and arrested him.
They took him to the detention centre of the security institution in Orumiyeh and severely interrogated and tortured him on the accusation of “membership in a Kurdish opposition party”.
On 20 August 2018, Branch 2 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Orumiyeh – presided over by Judge Ali Sheikhlou — tried him while he was denied the right to have a lawyer.
After the political prisoner appealed against the ruling, the case was referred to Branch 19 of the Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court overruled the ruling for “lack of investigation” in the case and referred it again to Branch 2 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Orumiyeh.
In January 2020, once again, the court sentenced Ebrahimi to death.
Ebrahimi, 40, is married and comes from Oshnavieh.
