Notes:

1- The December 2025–January 2026 protests began in Tehran on 28 December 2025 following the collapse in the value of the national currency, rising prices and deteriorating living conditions. They quickly spread to other cities and continued with political demands and slogans against the Islamic Republic. The crackdown on 8 and 9 January marked one of the bloodiest stages of the protests.

Amnesty International reported that thousands of protesters and bystanders were killed over those two days. In late January, the Supreme National Security Council announced that 3,117 people had been killed, while independent reports indicated a higher figure. This is the government’s reported figure and should not be regarded as the confirmed number of protesters killed.

Other reported violations during and after the crackdown included widespread internet and communications shutdowns, the arrest of thousands of people, enforced disappearances, torture and pressure on the families of those killed. Restrictions on access to information and the obstruction of independent documentation have created serious obstacles to determining the final number of people killed and establishing the fate of all those detained.
