Iran executed Monireh Nourikia, a woman prisoner sentenced to death for “premeditated murder”, in Mashhad Central Prison on 28 May.

Nourikia, 35, was arrested in 2020 and sentenced to death for “premeditated murder” under the Islamic law of qisas, or retribution-in-kind, which gives the victim’s family the right to retaliate.

Several men were also reportedly executed at the same time in Mashhad Central Prison, but no information has yet been received on the identities of these prisoners.
