Iranian security forces have detained four more people in the majority Kurdish western Iran without a court order, on 23-24 January, bringing the number of detentions in the recent wave of arrests of Kurdish civilians and activists to a total of 57, sources have told the Kurdistan Human Rights Network.
Reportedly, on 24 January, civilian Babak Babaei was detained in the city of Saqez and Jamil Ahmadi in Sanandaj. While, the day before that, Afshin Elahi was detained in Saqez and Sirvan Amini in Sanandaj. It is not known where the detainees were taken.
The detentions follow a new wave of arrests of Kurdish citizens and rights activists by security forces, which began on 9 January.
In an interview with the Kurdistan Human Rights Network, a number of family members of the recent detainees, who reside in Tehran, Karaj, Bukan, Rabat, and Mahabad, said that after their follow-ups and applications to the West Azarbaijan Provincial Prosecutor’s Office, the Intelligence Organisation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), and the intelligence service, they figured out that the detentions were carried out arbitrarily and without a court order.
According to these families, a number of detainees have told their families during brief telephone calls that they were detained in the Intelligence Organization of the IRGC in Orumiyeh. However, the prosecutor of their cities and the Orumiyeh Public Prosecutor have informed the families that they were not aware of any such arrests and that no arrest warrants have been issued against the detainees.

The investigation by the Kurdistan Human Rights Network suggest that the new wave of arrests has been carried out simultaneously by the Intelligence Organisation of the IRGC in the cities of Tehran, Karaj, Mahabad, Rabat, and Marivan, and by the Ministry of Intelligence in the cities of Piranshahr, Bukan, Naqadeh, Saqez, and Marivan.
