Employed and retired teachers held protest rallies in various cities across Iranian Kurdistan on 10 November, demanding changes in the pension and salary systems for higher pay amid skyrocketing inflation in the country.
They demanded that the parliament approve the bill that would implement a ranking system based on which a pay scale commensurate with the pay scale of university professors would be created for teachers, guaranteeing up to 80 per cent of the same salary grade.
They also demanded the adjustment of the pensions for inflation based on the Civil Service Management Law.
The protest rallies were held in front of the Education Ministry in Orumiyeh and Bukan in West Azerbaijan province, Sanandaj, Divandarreh, Saqqez, and Marivan in Kurdistan province, Kermanshah, Sonqor, Eslamabad-e Gharb, Javanrud in Kermanshah province, and Ilam.
The protests came after a call by the Coordinating Council of the Iranian Teachers’ Trade Association in 68 cities across the country.
