Civil rights activist Viyan Mohammadi has been arrested on 30 April by the Intelligence Organisation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) at her home in Tehran, sources told the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN).

Despite repeated family pursuits in recent days, no information has yet been obtained as to why the Kurdish activist was detained.

A source close to Mohammadi’s family confirmed the news to the KHRN and said: “More than 10 security officers entered Ms. Mohammadi’s house, arrested her, and confiscated her personal belongings, including laptops, cell phone, books, etc. Officers also insulted members of Mohammadi’s family.”

The source added that Mohammadi, who comes from Marivan, Kurdistan province, was first transferred to Evin Detention Centre in Tehran and then to the detention centre of the Intelligence Organisation of the IRGC in Orumiyeh.

Mohammadi’s husband, Faramarz Mohammadi, had been arrested in January in Tehran, during the wave of arrests of more than 120 Kurdish activists in various cities. He was transferred to the detention centre of the Intelligence Organisation of the IRGC in Sanandaj and was then temporarily released on a bail of 300 million Iranian Tomans – nearly 12,000 USD. With her husband’s arrest in January, Viyan Mohammadi was also summoned to the Intelligence Organisation of the IRGC and interrogated.
