Kurdish prisoner Ali Mohammadi-Moghaddam went on a hunger strike on Saturday, October 10, in protest to the enforcement of his release order made by the Tehran Military Court being sabotaged.
The prisoner was transferred to solitary confinement after going on a hunger strike. However, despite the forensic medicine reports and a history of dozens of suicides attempts in prison, he is still being held in harsh conditions at Orumiyeh Central Prison without the right to receive medication.
As confirmed by the specialized psychiatric commission of forensic medicine in Orumiyeh, this prisoner suffers from schizophrenia due to spending 15 months in solitary confinement.
Ali Mohammadi Moghaddam, from Kermanshah and a resident of Tehran with a master of political science and a member of the Iranian army, was arrested by the Ministry of Intelligence forces at his family home in Tehran in December 2008 and transferred to the general ward of Evin Prison. He was initially held at solitary confinement of Army (37) and 209 where intelligence authorities supervise the detainees for 15 months.
After nearly two years of uncertainty, he was sentenced to 18 years in prison and exile in Orumiyeh Prison by the Branch two of the Tehran Military Prosecutor’s Office on charges of “moharebeh” through espionage for the US and British governments in September 2010. He was deprived of the right to a designated lawyer at the trial whose sentence was upheld by Branch 31 of the Supreme Court a month later. The prisoner was transferred to Orumiyeh Central Prison in late 2010.
Mohammadi-Moghaddam had been sent on leave several times in the past few years but the security forces arrested him in Khoy in September of last year when he was about to leave the country on his leave. He has also been banned from receiving medications at the prison.
