The Branch 2 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court in the city of Shahriar, Tehran province, has sentenced Kurdish woman Mahsa Farhadi to two years in prison in the past few days for not wearing a headscarf.
The court charged the 21-year-old woman with “assembly and collusion with the intent to disrupt national security”, Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has learned.
Security forces “beat and arrested Farhadi for not wearing a headscarf” on 15 November after she left her workplace, said people close to her.
After two days of follow-up, the young woman’s family learned that she had been arrested and taken to Qarchak Prison in Tehran province.
KHRN has learned that although the civilian’s family provided the bail amount and presented it to the court, the judge refused to grant bail. The issued document by the court, however, has stated that her family failed to provide the conditions for her release on bail.
Farhadi is originally from Sanandaj, Kurdistan province, and lives in Tehran.
