The health condition of a veterinarian from Mahabad, West Azerbaijan province, named Peyman Golabi, who was injured and arrested by Iranian security forces on 12 October, is reported to be critical.
Golabi is currently held in the detention centre of the Intelligence Organisation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in Mahabad without the right to access medical services.
The security forces shot Golabi with shotgun pellets in a street in Mahabad and arrested him after severely beating him.
On 14 October, a security officer contacted the Kurdish civilian’s family and informed them that he had lost his life.
The officer asked the family to go to Mahabad Hospital to do the administrative work for receiving the body.
After the family went to the hospital and paid for the delivery of the body, the hospital administration told the family that the body was in the possession of the Ministry of Intelligence and should be received from the security institution.
After the family’s repeated visits to the security institutions and the prosecutor’s office in Mahabad, they were informed that Golabi was taken to a medical centre in Orumiyeh, West Azerbaijan province, and then to Miandoab Hospital after being injured.
On 16 October, the family received a phone call from Miandoab Hospital saying that their son was alive and was held by the Intelligence Organisation of the IRGC in Mahabad.
An eyewitness also told the family of the detained civilian that 15 pellets had hit his body and after his arrest, his two legs, right hand and several teeth were broken due to torture.
