The fate of detained Kurdish civilian Ahmad Babakhani remains unknown since his arrest by Iranian security forces on 19 January in Kamyaran, Kurdistan province.
Despite the follow-ups of the family with the court and the security institutions in Kamyaran, they have not received any information on the whereabouts and the charges brought against the civilian.
Ahmad Babakhani is the brother of Mousa Babakhani, a senior member of the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan (KDPI) who was assassinated by the cross-border agents of the Islamic Republic of Iran in August 2021 in the city of Erbil in Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
After the political activist’s assassination, his family members have been summoned and interrogated many times by security agencies over the past few years.
