Detained Kurdish civilians Mohammad Obaid Haghighiyan and Pouya Rostamipour were released on bail over the past few days from Sanandaj Central Prison in Kurdistan province, north-western Iran.
On 25 February, Haghighiyan, a former employee at the Sanandaj courthouse, was released after 20 days of detention on a bail of 500 million Toman – nearly 10,000 USD.
The Branch Two of the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office in Sanandaj is investigating the civilian’s case on charges of “propaganda against the state,” “insulting sanctities and [Iran’s] leader”, and “encouraging people to participate in riots”, Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has learned.
Security forces arrested Haghighiyan in Sanandaj on 5 February and took him to a security detention centre in the city.
In addition, Kurdish civilian Rostamipour, who the Ministry of Intelligence arrested in Sanandaj on 1 February, was released on 28 February on a bail of 2 billion Tomans – nearly 40,000 USD.
Rostamipour, a football trainer and graduate of biochemistry from the Islamic Azad University of Sanandaj, was charged with “acting against national security” through his alleged “collaboration” with one of the Kurdish opposition parties.
The two civilians were denied the right to legal counsel and family visits during their detention.
