Mehdi (Salar) Jamshidi, who was detained for taking part in a protest rally held against the schoolgirl poisonings in Iran, was released on bail from Dizel Abad Prison in Kermanshah on 27 April.

Security forces arrested Jamshidi during a protest rally held by families of the poisoned schoolgirls outside the education ministry office in Kermanshah on 4 March and took him to a security detention centre in the city.

Plainclothes and security forces attacked and beat the demonstrators, some of whom were arrested.

After two days of interrogation, he was transferred to the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office in Kermanshah and then sent to Dizel Abad Prison under a temporary detention order.

Jamshidi, who suffers from kidney failure, was denied access to his medication and medical care while he was detained.

He was temporarily released on a bail of 20 billion Iranian rials – almost 40,000 USD.

As of yet, there is no information on the charges brought against the civilian.
