Detained civilians Ahmad Gholami and Rasoul Obeydi were released from Baneh Prison in Kurdistan province on 17 May on bail of 5 billion Iranian rials each – nearly 10,000 USD – after 20 days in detention.

Hours before their release, the two civilians were transferred from the Ministry of Intelligence detention centre in Baneh to the city’s prison after 20 days of interrogation, the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has learned.

On 1 May, security forces arrested Gholami, who is a Kurdish language teacher in the village of Sivech in Baneh, after surrounding his farm.

During Gholami’s arrest, security forces searched his family home and took away his car, motorbike and books.

At the same time, security forces raided Obeydi’s house in the village. They arrested him and confiscated some of his belongings.

Obeydi previously lost a leg in a landmine explosion, the KHRN has learned.

On 2 May, five other civilians from the village, Osman Mahmoudi, Farhad Rahmanpour, Salam Abdollahi, Zaher Ismaili and Jafar Abdollah-Panah, were summoned to the Ministry of Intelligence in Baneh and interrogated for several hours.
