Prison officers at Orumiyeh Central Prison in West Azerbaijan Province tortured prisoner Farzin Nouri and transferred him to solitary confinement on 25 September, the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has learned.
According to sources, Nouri’s protest against the transfer order to move him from Ward 1 to Ward 4 led to a violent response by several prison officers, who used batons and cables during the torture.
This resulted in a head injury and severe bleeding, after which Nouri was transferred to solitary confinement.
Nouri, whose physical condition is deteriorating, has been denied access to essential medical services, while his communication with his family has been cut off by the prison authorities.
Almost four weeks ago, Nouri attempted suicide in protest at the order to transfer him to Ward 4.
Following the suicide attempt, the prisoner was transferred to a medical facility outside the prison, but returned to prison after several days in hospital.
Nouri is an Azerbaijani-Turkic civilian from Orumiyeh who was arrested and sentenced to death on drug-related charges about four years ago.
