The Iranian Ministry of Intelligence arrested Nasser Sargaran, a lawyer, university lecturer and advocate for the rights of people with disabilities, at his family home in Saqqez, Kurdistan Province, on 11 October.
Following his arrest, which took place without a warrant, Sargaran was taken to the Ministry’s detention facility in Sanandaj, Kurdistan Province.
Since his arrest, he has only had one brief phone call with his family, informing them of his detention in a security detention centre in Sanandaj.
A week after his arrest, there is no information on the charges against the activist, and he has been denied access to legal counsel and family visits.
Sargaran, who lost his eyesight in a landmine explosion in 1993, holds a doctorate in international law from the University of Tehran.
His doctoral thesis focused on “the right of landmine victims to rehabilitation services”.
