Rahim Ebrahimi, a kolbar from the village of Valiv in Sardasht, West Azerbaijan Province, fell into a river and died while being chased by Iranian border guards in the Qandil border area of Sardasht last week.

The Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has learned that the incident occurred on the evening of 31 May when a group of kolbars returning from the border were ambushed by Iranian border guards in the Mergah Zhan area of the Qandil Mountains.

The kolbars were shot at and fled in fear of arrest, and Ebrahimi, a 30-year-old father of three children, went missing during the chase.

The next day, Ebrahimi’s lifeless body was discovered by local volunteers near the Khedravi fish farm.

According to statistics compiled by KHRN, in May, six kolbars – Hemin Ahmadi, Jalal Sohrabi, Ata Rostampour, Salar Ahmadi, Vahed Ghaderpour and Sina Rasoulzadeh – were killed by Iranian border guards’ gunfire in the border areas of Saqqez, Baneh, and Sardasht in the Kurdistan and West Azerbaijan provinces.
