Forces from the Hamzeh Seyyed al-Shohada Headquarters of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) besieged the village of Tajandareh in Oshnavieh, West Azerbaijan Province, in the early hours of 9 July, engaging in a clash with a small group of Kurdish opposition party members.

The Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has learned that at least one person was killed in the clash, which lasted several hours, and another was arrested after sustaining injuries.

The Public Relations Office of the Hamzeh Seyyed al-Shohada IRGC Ground Forces confirmed the incident, stating that “a counter-revolutionary team that attempted to infiltrate the soil of the Islamic Republic of Iran from the north-western border was ambushed and dismantled by our forces”.

The KHRN has learned that a convoy of IRGC forces, equipped with light and semi-heavy weapons, surrounded the village of Tajandareh and clashed with a small group of members of a Kurdish opposition party.

The IRGC forces targeted a residential house on the outskirts of the village with RPG fire, resulting in the death of one unidentified person and the capture of another after he was wounded.

A video circulating on social media shows several horses killed by IRGC shelling of the residential property.

The Headquarters’ statement did not specify the number of casualties but mentioned that several members of an opposition group had been killed or wounded.

The identities of the two killed and wounded remain unknown.

The Hamzeh Seyyed al-Shohada Headquarters, based in Orumiyeh, is one of the IRGC’s most prominent bases, established in 1981 after the start of conflicts with Kurdish opposition forces.

The headquarters oversees operations against the Kurdish opposition in West Azerbaijan and Kurdistan provinces, as well as in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
