The detention of Fardin (Ako) Sheikhol-Eslami, a Kurdish civil rights activist from Sanandaj, Kurdistan Province, has been extended by one month, the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has learned.

Sheikhol-Eslami, who was originally arrested by security forces in Sanandaj on 2 October, has remained in detention without access to family visits or legal counsel.

The activist and his wife, Fariba Moradian, were arrested without a warrant and taken to a security detention facility.

Moradian was released on bail after two days, but the circumstances of Sheikhol-Eslami’s continued detention remain unclear.

Additionally, no information has been released about the detaining authority, Sheikhol-EIslami’s whereabouts, or the charges he may be facing.

In 2018, the activist was also arrested by the Ministry of Intelligence for his environmental activism.
