Iranian authorities executed Amanj Azizi and Rahim Faghiri, two men convicted in separate drug-related cases, in Orumiyeh and Birjand last week, the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has learned.

Azizi, from the village of Aghlan in Sardasht, West Azerbaijan Province, was transferred to solitary confinement in Orumiyeh Central Prison, West Azerbaijan Province, in preparation for his execution on 14 November, which took place at dawn on 15 November.

He was arrested about eight years ago and sentenced to death on charges related to drug trafficking.

In a separate case, Faghiri, a 34-year-old father of three from the village of Siveh Dar in Salmas, West Azerbaijan Province, was executed in Birjand Central Prison in South Khorasan Province on 17 November. 

Faghiri was arrested about two years ago on similar charges and subsequently sentenced to death.
