Iran has executed four men for drug and murder-related offences in prisons in Kermanshah, Saqqez, Hamadan and Karaj in the past week.
On 20 November, Mostafa Souri, a prisoner from Kangavar, Kermanshah Province, who had been arrested several years ago on drug-related charges, was executed in Dizel Abad prison in Kermanshah Province.
In the early hours of 21 November, Meysam Nouri, a prisoner from Qorveh, Kurdistan Province, arrested three years ago on drug-related charges, was executed in Hamadan Central Prison.
Moslem Jafari, a prisoner from Nurabad, Lorestan Province, was executed in Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj, Alborz Province, on the morning of 24 November.
Jafari, who was arrested several years ago on drug-related charges, was transferred to solitary confinement on 23 November in preparation for his execution.
Additionally, Jahangir (Moslem) Rahimi, a prisoner from Saqqez, Kurdistan Province, who was arrested two years ago on murder charges, was executed in Saqqez prison on 24 November.
Rahimi was sentenced to death after being found guilty of “premeditated murder”, a crime punishable by qisas, which gives the victim’s family the right to retaliate under Islamic law.
