The Ministry of Intelligence has arrested three more Kurdish civilians in the latest wave of arrests of Kurdish civilians and activists in Mahabad, West Azerbaijan Province, bringing the total number of detainees to 14.
In the latest arrests, Kurdish civilians Nazanin Elyasi, Farhad Ghoveh, and Salar Shams Borhan were arrested and taken to the Ministry of Intelligence detention centre in Orumiyeh, West Azerbaijan Province, the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has learned.
On 15 December, Ministry of Intelligence agents raided the homes of Shams Borhan and Ghoveh in the village of Kelijeh and arrested both civilians without warrants.
Elyasi, from Mahabad, was arrested on 16 December after being summoned by telephone to the Ministry of Intelligence office in Mahabad.
No information has been provided about the charges against these detainees, and despite persistent requests from their families, security and judicial authorities have refused to provide details about their situation.
Earlier, KHRN reported the arrest of at least 11 Kurdish civilians and activists in Mahabad by agents of the Ministry of Intelligence.
The identities of these individuals are Ayoub Rasouli, Rebwar Rasouli, Rahman Dana, Shwana Jahanifar, Siamand Seyyed-Ahmadi, Zanyar Seyyed-Ahmadi, Aram Mabzouleh, Yousef Ghal, Ghader Kharamanfar, Kamal Masoudi and Jalal Sadafi.
One detainee, Seyyed-Ahmadi, was released after several hours, but the others remain detained in the Ministry of Intelligence detention centre in Orumiyeh.
