Kurdish civilians Kamal Ehsan-Bakhsh and Najieh Jafari were seriously injured in a landmine explosion in the Meymak border area of Ilam Province.

The incident occurred on 16 January while the couple were grazing their livestock in the border area.

The Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has learned that Ehsan-Bakhsh’s left leg was amputated, while his wife, Jafari, suffered injuries to her eye and abdomen.

The couple were immediately transferred to Khomeini Hospital in Ilam for medical treatment, with Ehsan-Bakhsh reported to be in critical condition.
