Amjad Amini, the father of Jina Amini, has revealed that he was unlawfully summoned and charged by the Saqqez Prosecutor’s Office in Kurdistan Province over allegations linked to his social media activity.

In a statement shared on Instagram, Amini said he had been summoned on 13 January to appear before the First Investigative Branch of the Saqqez Prosecutor’s Office within five days. He complied with the summons on 18 January, where he was formally charged with “spreading falsehoods”, a charge outlined in the summons.

He continued: “Not even 48 hours had passed before I received another notice. For the charge of spreading falsehoods, with which I was formally charged, a decision of non-prosecution was issued. However, [according to the notice] I was found guilty of propaganda against the state, which was neither mentioned in the summons nor explained to me by the investigator, and a prosecution order was issued!”

In this contradictory and unlawful process of issuing notices and charges, Amini said today, 24 January, that he had been informed of cases opened against him by the Criminal and Islamic Revolutionary Courts.

He stated that the case stemmed from an Instagram post in which he protested against the confirmation of the death sentence against Pakhshan Azizi.

Jina Amini, Mr Amini’s daughter, was killed in state custody in September 2022. Since her death, her family has faced continued harassment from Iran’s security and judicial authorities. They have been subjected to repeated summonses, threats, travel bans, detentions, and trials.
