Ministry of Intelligence agents arrested Kamran Sakhtemangar, a Kurdish labour activist and former political prisoner, in Sanandaj, Kurdistan Province, on 5 February.
The Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has learned that Ministry of Intelligence forces detained him in Jami Street without presenting a judicial warrant.
Sakhtemangar has been repeatedly targeted by security agencies due to his labour activism.
He was arrested on 29 September 2022 during the anti-government Women, Life, Freedom protests in Sanandaj and was released on bail on 26 February 2023.
In October 2023, he was tried at Branch One of the Islamic Revolutionary Court in Sanandaj on charges of “assembly and collusion” and “propaganda against the state”. He was acquitted of the first charge but fined for the second.
On 3 December 2023, he was summoned to Branch Four of the Enforcement of Judgements Office in Sanandaj and sent to Sanandaj Central Prison. He was released after seven days upon paying the fine.
