Bafrin Maroufi, a Kurdish woman from Bukan, West Azerbaijan Province, was sent to Orumiyeh Central Prison to begin a four-month, seven-day sentence.
Maroufi was taken into custody on 25 May 2025 after being summoned to the Enforcement of Judgments Office of the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office in Bukan, after which she was transferred to Orumiyeh prison.
She was previously arrested by security forces in Bukan on 30 January 2025 and taken to a detention facility run by the Ministry of Intelligence in Orumiyeh.
After initial interrogation, she was transferred to the women’s ward of Orumiyeh Central Prison, and was provisionally released on bail on 15 February 2025.
Branch 101 of the Second Criminal Court in Bukan recently sentenced Maroufi to four months and seven days of imprisonment on charges of “acting against national security” through alleged collaboration with the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan (PDKI).
