Diako Yazdan-Panah, a Kurdish civilian from Bukan in West Azerbaijan Province, has been summoned to begin serving a two-year prison sentence previously issued by Branch 101 of the Second Criminal Court in the city.
He was previously arrested on 17 June 2024 after receiving a summons from the city’s Public Security Police and was held for several days in their detention centre, where he was subjected to severe physical and psychological torture on the accusation of “links to Kurdish opposition parties”.
Photographs obtained from Yazdan-Panah show visible signs of torture on his body.
He was later transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department’s detention facility, where he was interrogated and tortured again for three days, this time accused of “evading compulsory military service”.
Yazdan-Panah was subsequently moved to Bukan Prison, and was provisionally released on bail on 23 June 2024.
His trial took place on 16 October 2024 at Branch 101 of the Second Criminal Court in Bukan, which sentenced him to two years on charges of “insulting the Supreme Leader” and to a further eight months for “failing to report for mandatory military service”.
He has now received an official notice requiring him to report to the Enforcement of Judgements Office of the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office in Bukan on 18 June 2025 to begin serving his sentence.
