Security forces have arrested nine Kurdish civilians in Mahabad and surrounding villages in West Azerbaijan Province in recent days, with no information disclosed about their whereabouts, the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has learned.
On 19 June, Pouria Nasiri, a law student at Islamic Azad University of Mahabad with a previous record of arrest, was arrested without a warrant on one of the city’s streets.
On the same day, Mehran Khadiripour, Soroush Yousefzadeh and Keyvan Mameh-Goli were also arrested in Mahabad.
On 21 June, Nouraddin Doudkanlou Milan, Omid Rash, and Asaad Rasoulzadeh were taken into custody without a warrant by security forces in the village of Kuseh Kahriz in Mahabad.
At the same time, Shaho Mahmoudi was arrested in the village of Gug Tappeh, and Soran Safari was detained in Mahabad.
Despite repeated enquiries by the families of the detainees, security and judicial authorities have refused to provide any details regarding the reasons for the arrests or the current location of the detainees.
