Kurdish civilians Kianoush Cheraghi and Soleyman Ghader Galvan were arrested by Ministry of Intelligence agents in Dehloran, Ilam Province, and Oshnavieh, West Azerbaijan Province, in recent days.

Galvan, whose brother Abdolsalam was killed during the Women, Life, Freedom protests in Oshnavieh, was arrested on 23 June at his family home in the city and taken to the Ministry of Intelligence detention centre in Orumiyeh, West Azerbaijan Province.

Abdolsalam Ghader Galvan, 32, was shot by military-security forces during protests in Oshnavieh on 21 September 2022 and died five days later from gunshot wounds at Khomeini Hospital in Orumiyeh.

Meanwhile, Cheraghi, a former political prisoner from Dehloran who was arrested during the Women, Life, Freedom protests, was arrested on 24 June at his family home in Dehloran and taken to a Ministry of Intelligence detention facility in Ilam, Ilam Province.

Authorities have reportedly issued a 10-day temporary detention order against him.

Cheraghi, a former employee of the Dehloran Social Security Office, was arrested twice between 27 September and 3 October 2023 for posts on his personal Instagram page commemorating the anniversary of the anti-government Women, Life, Freedom uprising. He was released on bail on 7 October 2023.

That same month, Branch Two of the Islamic Revolutionary Court in Ilam, presided over by Judge Reza Salahaddini, sentenced him to one year in prison on charges of “propaganda against the state”.

In a separate case, on 6 November 2023, Branch 101 of the Dehloran Criminal Court sentenced him to two years’ imprisonment and additional penalties for “spreading false information with the intention of disturbing public opinion through online platforms”.

On 24 March 2024, Cheraghi was again arrested and sent to Ilam Central Prison after being summoned by the Enforcement of Judgements Office of the Dehloran Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office.

On 13 May 2025, he was released from Darreh Shahr Prison in Ilam following the suspension of his sentence.
