Seyvan Abdollahzadeh, a 23-year-old kolbar, was shot dead and another kolbar was seriously injured after Iranian border guards opened fire on a group of kolbars in the border region of Baneh, Kurdistan Province.
The incident occurred in the early hours of 28 June when the border guards fired at the group without prior warning and at close range in the Awpar area of Baneh.
Abdollahzadeh and another kolbar named Hossein (surname unknown) were seriously injured in the shooting, and several of their horses were killed.
Both men were taken to a medical centre in Saqqez, Kurdistan Province, where Abdollahzadeh later died from his injuries. The second man’s condition is reported to be critical.
Abdollahzadeh was from the village of Haft Tash in Baneh.
