Mehri Abdolghaderi, a 25-year-old woman, has been left severely injured after her husband carried out an acid attack one her in a village in Javanrud, Kermanshah Province.
Yavar Salehi, her husband, also caused serious injuries to their eight-year-old child, who sustained severe burns to both hands while trying to help his mother.
The Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has learned that Mehri is currently undergoing major surgery in a hospital in Javanrud. She has lost one eye, and her face, remaining eye, and hands have also suffered serious damage.
According to a source close to the family, the young woman had endured years of violence and controlling behaviour from her husband. After finally deciding to separate from him, she was subjected to a violent assault and held captive.
The following day, Salehi convinced her to get into his car, claiming he was taking her to her father’s home. During the journey, following yet another physical assault, Mehri exited the vehicle. At that point, her husband attacked her with acid.
The couple’s child was injured in the process of trying to protect his mother.
Following widespread public outrage, the police chief in Javanrud announced that the suspect had been identified and arrested in coordination with the judiciary.
