Several days after the arrest of Kurdish civil rights activist Malak Faraj-Beygi in Bukan, West Azerbaijan Province, there is still no information about her whereabouts or condition.

The Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has learned that Faraj-Beygi was arrested without a warrant on 1 July during a raid on her family home by around 20 Ministry of Intelligence agents.

The agents also damaged doors and windows during the raid.

Faraj-Beygi was reportedly transferred to the Ministry of Intelligence’s detention facility in Orumiyeh, West Azerbaijan Province, where she has since been denied contact with her family and access to legal representation.

She was previously involved in environmental groups including “Welat” and “Jingeparezani Bukan”, as well as Bukan’s literary association.

One day earlier, on 30 June, another environmental activist from Bukan, Simko Maroufi, was also arrested by Ministry of Intelligence agents. His fate likewise remains unclear.
