A kamikaze drone attack carried out by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has targeted and killed one member of the Eastern Kurdistan Units (YRK), the armed wing of the Kurdistan Free Life Party (PJAK), and seriously injured another in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.

The attack took place in the early hours of 19 July, when a drone launched from an Iranian border base targeted a Toyota Hilux vehicle near the village of Shiwah Gwezan in Penjwen, Sulaymaniyah Governorate.

The Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has learned that the attack resulted in the immediate death of the vehicle’s driver and left a second occupant critically wounded.

The YRK later confirmed in a statement that the vehicle belonged to its members, identifying the individual killed as Omid Hosseini from Kamyaran, Kurdistan Province.

Residents of the area reported that the explosion caused widespread forest fires along the border.

The strike follows heightened tensions in the region. Following the recent Israeli attack on Iran and the subsequent ceasefire, the IRGC has significantly increased its deployment of military equipment, including surveillance and suicide drones, to border bases.

The provinces of West Azerbaijan, Kurdistan, Kermanshah, and Ilam have seen a notable increase in security presence.
