A young couple were killed in a knife and gun attack in front of their child in Dehgolan, Kurdistan province, on the evening of 17 July, the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has learned.
The assailant, who was reportedly motivated by a rejected marriage proposal, was detained by local residents and handed over to the police.
According to information received by the KHRN, the assailant entered a fabric shop in the city centre and opened fire on the female shop owner, Chnour Abbasi. He then fatally stabbed her husband, Payam Sarmasti, in front of their seven-year-old daughter.
Abbasi, who had sustained serious gunshot wounds, died from her injuries en route to hospital in Sanandaj, Kurdistan Province.
The assailant, identified as Kh.M., is reported to have repeatedly attempted to pressure Abbasi into divorcing her husband and marrying him – a demand she had consistently refused.
