The fate of Amin Karimi, a Kurdish artist and theatre actor from Orumiyeh, West Azerbaijan Province, remains unknown more than three weeks after his arrest by Iranian border forces, the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has learned.

Karimi was detained on 1 July at the Serow border crossing in Orumiyeh while returning from Turkey and has since been held in an undisclosed location.

The authorities have denied him access to legal counsel and family visits since his arrest.

Despite repeated efforts, his family has been unable to obtain any information about his whereabouts or legal status, as security and judicial institutions have refused to offer any explanation.

Karimi was previously detained during the anti-government Women, Life, Freedom protests and released on bail after one month.
