Iranian police have shot and killed two Kurdish civilians, Arman Beyglari and Pezhman Badri, in the city of Holeylan, Ilam Province, the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has learned.

“At 21:00 [local time] on Wednesday, 23 July 2025, the two men were involved in an altercation with several people in a park in Holeylan. After leaving the scene on a motorbike, they were pursued by a police patrol and shot at close range. Both were killed instantly”, a source close to the families of the two men told KHRN.

Following the killings, the Ilam Provincial Police issued a statement claiming that Beyglari and Badri were armed, had opened fire on several people in Towhid Park, and had engaged in an armed confrontation with the police forces during their attempted escape.

However, the source dismissed the police account as fabricated, saying there had been no exchange of fire and that the two men had been shot from behind and at close range.

The victims, aged 28 and 29, were returned to their families on 24 July, and their funeral was held in their birthplace the following day.
