Iranian border guards have fatally shot Mehdi Sharifi, a 40-year-old kolbar, in the Sardaw border area of Baneh, Kurdistan Province.

According to information received by the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN), the incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, 5 October, when border guards opened fire at close range on a vehicle carrying kolbars on the Sardaw road. Sharifi died as a result of the shooting.

Sharifi, for the village of Kani Seyf in Baneh, was the father of one child.

This latest killing comes amid a series of similar incidents in the region. Over the past two weeks, two other kolbars, Rebwar Mohammadzadeh and Ghassem Azizi, were also shot dead by border guards in the border areas of Baneh.
