Three days after the arrest of civil rights activist Azad Haji-Mirzaei in Sanandaj, Kurdistan Province, his family remains unaware of his fate or whereabouts.
The Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has learned that security forces detained Haji-Mirzaei at his workplace on 15 October without a warrant and transferred him to an undisclosed location.
Despite repeated enquiries with security and judicial institutions, Haji-Mirzaei’s family has not received any explanation or response regarding his situation.
Haji-Mirzaei was previously arrested on 16 September 2023, during the first anniversary of the state killing of Jina (Mahsa) Amini, and was later released on bail after several weeks in detention.
Subsequently, the Islamic Revolutionary Court in Sanandaj sentenced him to five years of suspended imprisonment on charges of “acting against national security” through alleged collaboration with a Kurdish opposition party.
