Iranian authorities have executed Ali Saed-Panah, a 21-year-old Kurdish prisoner from Esfarayen, North Khorasan Province, who had been sentenced to death on charges of “premeditated murder” of his cousin.
The Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has learned that the execution took place at dawn on 26 October in Esfarayen Prison, after Saed-Panah had spent 20 months in detention.
Saed-Panah, from the village of Kalateh Aghazadeh in Esfarayen, was arrested on 21 March 2023 and later convicted of “premeditated murder”.
Under Islamic law, premeditated murder is a crime punishable by qisas (retribution in kind), which gives the victim’s family the right to retaliate.
