Ministry of Intelligence agents have arrested Kurdish citizen Ako Azizi in the city of Rabat, West Azerbaijan Province, and transferred him to the agency’s detention centre in Orumiyeh, West Azerbaijan Province.
The Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has learned that security forces raided Azizi’s family home in Rabat on the evening of 29 October and arrested him without a warrant.
The arrest was reportedly carried out with violence, and agents confiscated several of Azizi’s personal belongings during the raid.
In recent days, a new wave of arrests targeting Kurdish citizens and activists has been launched in several cities across Kurdistan. At least 11 Kurdish citizens and activists have been detained so far and taken to the Ministry of Intelligence detention facilities in Sanandaj and Orumiyeh.
Most of those arrested are believed to be relatives of political activists living abroad. Authorities have yet to provide any information about the charges against them or the reasons for their detention.
