Iranian authorities have executed Shamseddin (Shahab) Abbasi Kay, a prisoner held in Orumiyeh Central Prison in West Azerbaijan Province, after convicting him of drug-related offences.

The Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has learned that Abbasi Kay, a 51-year-old man from the village of Kay near Orumiyeh, was transferred to solitary confinement on 6 November ahead of his execution, which was carried out at dawn the following day.

He was arrested in autumn 2023 and later sentenced to death by the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Orumiyeh on charges related to drug offences.
