Peyman Azizi, a young man who was sentenced to death for “premeditated murder”, has been executed at Kermanshah Central Prison (also known as Dizel Abad Prison).

The Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) learned Azizi was put to death at dawn on 19 November after spending more than two years behind bars.

Azizi, a 22-year-old from the village of Negareh in Salas-e Babajani, Kermanshah Province, was arrested in 2023 during his compulsory military service and sentenced to death under qisas for the “premeditated murder” of a fellow soldier.

Under Iran’s Islamic law, premeditated murder is punishable by qisas (retribution in kind), which gives the victim’s family the right to demand the offender’s execution or to grant clemency in exchange for financial compensation (diya, or blood money).
