Kiyoumars Ghobadi, a prisoner sentenced to death on murder charges, has been executed at Ilam Central Prison, the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has learned.
“The 37-year-old prisoner was arrested around nine years ago on charges of ‘premeditated murder’ and was sentenced to death”, an informed source told KHRN.
According to the source, “On Monday, 15 December 2025, the prisoner was transferred to solitary confinement at Ilam Central Prison for the enforcement of the sentence, and was executed at dawn on Tuesday, 16 December.”
Under Iran’s Islamic law, premeditated murder is punishable by qisas (retribution in kind), which gives the victim’s family the right to demand the offender’s execution or to grant clemency in exchange for financial compensation (diya, or blood money).
