A Kurdish woman from Marivan, Kurdistan Province, was shot dead in the city of Sulaymaniyah in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq on 12 February.
Khatereh (Awat) was killed by four gunshots and Sulaymaniyah police officers discovered her body inside a private residence after hearing gunfire.
An informed source who spoke to the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) and said: “The man suspected of the killing had previously harassed Awat several times, and she had filed a formal complaint against him in response to this behaviour. Following the complaint, the individual was detained for some time, but continued to threaten Awat, saying that he would take revenge on her after his release.”
The suspect was reportedly later arrested by Sulaymaniyah police.
Awat was married, had one child and had worked as a hairdresser in Sulaymaniyah in recent years.
