Maryam Davoudian, a 58-year-old Kurdish woman, was detained by Ministry of Intelligence forces in Bukan on 20 April and transferred to Orumiyeh Central Prison, where she is being held in quarantine with no access to her family or a lawyer.
Her family have expressed alarm over whether she is receiving essential medication for multiple serious conditions.
“Maryam Davoudian was arrested after being summoned by telephone to the office of the Ministry of Intelligence in Bukan and presenting herself there. Following several hours of interrogation, she was transferred to the quarantine section of the women’s ward at Orumiyeh Central Prison on a ten-day temporary detention order”, an informed source told the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN).
According to the source, Davoudian suffers from diabetes, minor thalassaemia, and rheumatoid arthritis. She has also previously lost the sight in one eye following a retinal stroke, and requires continuous access to prescribed medication.
In a brief telephone call since her arrest, she confirmed to her family that she had been placed in the quarantine section of the women’s ward, and denied the right to family visits and legal counsel.
The source added: “Her family went to the prison and managed to hand over some of her medication to the guards, but it remains unknown whether she has actually received it.”
The grounds for Davoudian’s detention and any charges brought against her remain unknown at the time of publication.
