Peyman Rahmanpour, a 21-year-old man from the village of Khorkhoreh in Saqqez, Kurdistan Province, has been killed by a landmine near the village.

Rahmanpour died on 7 May, after triggering a landmine in the highlands near the village.

Each year, dozens of civilians, and in some cases military personnel, are killed or lose limbs in border areas as a result of landmines remaining from the Iran-Iraq War or from the Islamic Republic’s military attacks on Kurdistan during the 1980s.

The affected regions include, in particular, the provinces of West Azerbaijan, Kurdistan, Kermanshah, and Ilam.
