Arman Marefati, a 30-year-old Kurdish civilian from Saqqez, Kurdistan Province, has been sentenced to death over the charge of “enmity against God” (moharebeh) in connection with the December 2025-January 2026 protests.

Branch 15 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court in Tehran, presided over by Judge Salavati, issued the death sentence against Marefati, who was among those detained during protests on 8 and 9 January.

An informed source said: “This civilian was arrested by security forces during the protests on 8 and 9 January 2026 and, after some time, was transferred to the Greater Tehran Central Penitentiary. After an indictment was issued on the charge of moharebeh, the case was referred to Branch 15 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court in Tehran.”

Marefati, who was denied the right to a lawyer of his own choosing during the proceedings, was informed of the death sentence in prison.

“The political prisoner was summoned to the prison guard office on 25 May and transferred out of the Greater Tehran Central Penitentiary on the pretext of being sent to Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj”, said the source.

The source added that two other citizens accused in the same case, who are being held in Ghezel Hesar Prison, are also reported to have been sentenced to death.

However, no information has yet been obtained about their identities or the accuracy of the report.
