Soroush Karami, a Kurdish citizen arrested during the December 2025–January 2026 protests in Kermanshah, remains in solitary confinement without access to a lawyer or family visits, while facing the charge of “enmity against God” (moharebeh).
The Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has learned that Karami, from Kermanshah, is being held in solitary confinement in the security ward of Kermanshah Central Prison (Dizel Abad).
A source familiar with the case told KHRN: “He was arrested by security forces on 8 January 2026 during the protests on Laleh Maskan Street in Kermanshah. For months, his family approached security bodies and the Kermanshah courts to obtain information about his whereabouts, but the authorities denied any knowledge of his arrest and refused to provide a clear response.”
The source added: “On 17 June 2026, after five months with no information whatsoever about Soroush Karami’s fate, he was transferred from a security detention facility to the quarantine section of Kermanshah Central Prison. After being held there for several hours, prison officials transferred him to a solitary confinement cell in the prison’s security ward. Since his arrest, he has been denied the right to telephone calls, family visits and access to a lawyer.”
According to the source, a case has been opened against Karami in Branch 16 of the Investigation Office of the Kermanshah Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office on the charge of “enmity against God” (moharebeh), and the charge has been formally notified to him.
Information received by KHRN indicates that several other civilians arrested during the December 2025–January 2026 protests are also being held in solitary confinement in the newly established security ward at Kermanshah Central Prison after being charged with “enmity against God” (moharebeh).
